An hour from each other, San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles are two distinct subregions of the Central Coast of California. The landscape is so stunning that I felt like I was in Jurassic Park sans the dinosaurs. Driving through the vine-dotted hills of Paso, I had to keep reminding myself that if I lived here, the kind of place I can afford would be nothing like my Airbnb in the Edna Valley.
My approach to visiting wine country has become much more spontaneous and exploratory–I like to figure out where I’m going after I have a chance to speak to some locals. I encourage you to go beyond what’s recommended online and leave plenty of room for local discoveries in your itinerary, too. This will make your trip one of a kind.
